Someone once said that you would know if a career path is the right one for you when it is the last thing you think about before going to bed and the first thing you think of when you wake up in morning.  This is how I know that I am meant to be an artist.  Art is always on my mind.  I create in the early morning, I create in the afternoon, I create before going to bed and I even create while I am sleeping.  There is never a moment that I am not thinking of my next masterpiece.  Simply put art is my life; I love it, live it and breathe it.

I was born in Pretoria, South Africa in 1988 and immigrated to Canada with my family in 2001 at age 12.  I was self-taught well into my teen years until taking a portfolio course, at the age of 18, at the Neighborhood Art Studios.  There I continued to explore my creativity with various mediums and gained the necessary tools to enhance my artistic talent.  What was supposed to be a one year course, soon developed into a six year journey filled with volunteering, freelancing and teaching opportunities.  My studio is currently home based and thanks to my time and experiences at the art studio, I managed to discover what most artists take years to find – my niche.

My inspiration is derived from nature, people, emotions and a divine energy source.  Through dreams and a vivid imagination I am able to create images in vibrant colors and fine detail using unique applications of acrylics and multi-media.  Since most of what I create comes from my dreams, my work would fall into the category of spiritual surrealism.  As an artist, it is my calling to reveal the world as I see it through my eyes.  It is my soul’s purpose to create pieces that truly inspire, provoke and nourish your soul.

Art is personal and beautiful.  It is a privilege to be able to share mine with you.  My hope is that you will recognize the deep passion and sincerity in my work and in turn feel deeply inspirited; to allow my creative forces to connect you to a much deeper level of the understanding of the world that surrounds us.

Much Love,

Ashley
